Sarah Mills, wife of Sheriff Charlie Mills and mother of Abby Mills and Henry Dunn, was the fifth victim of John Wakefield in the 2001 murders. Sarah's children are the main characters of the Harper's Island television show.
Sarah dated John Wakefield in Seattle. The relationship turned sour, and Sarah fled the relationship, pregnant with Wakefield's child. She gave the child, Henry, to local Tacoma residents Frank and Karen Dunn and moved to Harper's Island. Sarah began her relationship with Charlie soon after. Wakefield managed to track Sarah to the island and attempted to hurt her.
Charlie managed to have Wakefield locked away for life, due to this incident, however he was released for good behavior after 17 years. He returned to the island and began his murderous rampage.
Death
On the morning of the murders, Abby returns home to discover her mother gone and the door ajar. After hearing her scream, Abby goes to look for Sarah, only to stumble across her body hanging from the Tree of Woe.
Sarah's official cause of death is unknown, although it was originally suspected to be hanging. The official autopsy report makes note of rope burns around her neck, deep slices on her right arm, deep punctures on her left, burn markings on her wrists, a wound on the right side of her middle back, and blood under her broken fingernails.
