On the Island

Malcolm opens his cooler of beer. ("Whap")

As the wedding party boards the Tarapunga in Seattle for the boat trip to Harper's Island, Malcolm arrives bringing his customary cooler of beer. The groomsmen greet Henry Dunn with chants of "Bro, Bro, Bro..." ("Whap"). When Abby Mills arrives, stating that she is a bit shaky from the flight, Christopher "Sully" Sullivan greets her with a glass of champagne, but she bypasses him, grabs Malcolm's beer, and chugs it down, claiming that she now feels better.

In "Crackle," Malcolm is a member of the red team for the scavenger hunt, along with Shea and Madison Allen and Beth Barrington. Later that evening at the bonfire party, when Sully remembers that he left Cal Vandeusen caught in a snare trap in the woods, Malcolm joins Sully, Abby, and Chloe Carter to search for Cal. In a cut scene from "Crackle", Beth bonds with Malcolm over her weight as a child. This bond is seen in later episodes.

Henry, Malcolm, and the other groomsmen find Hunter's boat. ("Bang")

In "Bang", Malcolm makes a pitch to Thomas Wellington and Richard Allen for financing of his microbrew, "Sacred Turtle" beer, but he is turned down. The groomsmen take Henry fishing, and, as Henry fishes on the Sound, Malcolm laments about being broke. After investigating a group of seagulls congregating nearby, they discover Hunter Jennings's boat, along with his remains. Malcolm notices a bag full of money and pleads with the others to agree to take it. He also finds a gun in the bag, and he accidentally shoots a hole in Hunter's boat, sinking it. The groomsmen reluctantly agree to keep the money. Back at the Candlewick Inn, they discover they have $250,000 and argue about what to do with the cash. Malcolm convinces Henry to keep the money until after the wedding. The groomsmen later discuss how to spend the money at the Inn's bar. Two men enter carrying pistols in holsters, prompting them all to run outside. They decide to hide the money, and Booth is chosen to hide it. Later that night, Malcolm is seen trailing Joel Booth as Booth attempts to hide the money for safe keeping. Malcolm is the sole witness to Booth's death after he accidentally shoots himself in the leg. Malcolm buries Booth's body in the woods and then attends the bachelor party at the Cannery. When Henry asks if he has seen Booth, Malcolm lies and says he hasn't seen him. When Malcolm returns to his room at the Inn, he mourns for Booth and hides the money under his bed.

Malcolm apologizes at Booth's burial site. ("Thwack")

In "Thwack," Malcolm awakens in the morning after having a nightmare about Booth. The shower is running, but when Malcolm goes to investigate, no one is there. Danny Brooks pops in, startling Malcolm, and asks about Booth as Malcolm hides the money further under his bed. Danny calls Booth's cell phone and leaves a message for him. After trying unsuccessfully again to reach Booth, the groomsmen search for him. Malcolm visits the area he buried Booth and apologizes for leaving him there. Danny suggests calling the Sheriff, but Malcolm convinces them to keep Booth's disappearance to themselves and to look for him after the wedding. In "Sploosh," after Thomas Wellington's murder, Beth tries unsuccessfully to contact Lucy Daramour. Malcolm comforts a distraught Beth, telling her that Booth also had to go home.

Malcolm burns the money. ("Thrack, Splat, Sizzle")

In "Thrack, Splat, Sizzle," Danny tells Sully, Malcolm, and Beth that the Sheriff is searching hotel rooms. Malcolm goes to his room to remove the stolen money. Malcolm quickly stuffs several stacks of money into a backpack when there is a knock at his door. He returns the money to the original bag and tosses it out of the window. At the door, Beth thanks Malcolm for having comforted her the previous day. Preoccupied with trying to conceal the money, Malcolm does not pick up on Beth's desire to extend their relationship, and Beth leaves. Malcolm searches outside for his bag, finding the gardener trimming the bushes outside of his window. After accidentally startling the gardener, Malcolm manages to retrieve the bag. He secretively returns to his room and begins stuffing the money into a backpack. As Malcolm prepares to leave his room with the money in his backpack, Sully and Danny appear at the door, accusing Malcolm of taking Sully's blow-up doll, Muffin. Sully searches Malcolm's bag, discovering the money, and Danny questions him about Booth. Malcolm relays the story of Booth's death to Sully and Danny. He claims to have lied out of desperation for the money, and Danny attacks him. They agree to go to the Sheriff and retrieve Booth's body. Later, Malcolm goes to the Inn's basement and attempts to dispose of the money in the incinerator.

Death

Malcolm grabs the furnace as he is sliced apart. ("Thrack, Splat, Sizzle")

As Malcolm watches the money burn in the incinerator, he is pulled off screen and is heard being sliced by an unknown object. He attempts to pull himself away from his assailant, and accidentally places his hand on the open mouth of the incinerator, burning it. His hand falls away as his murder continues.

In "Gurgle", Trish, Shea, Chloe, and Cal search for Madison Allen in the Inn, discovering Malcolm's skull in the incinerator.
