WAKEFIELD DEAD
Sheriff Shoots in Self-Defense
By Phil Gough
NEWS REPORTER

In a stunning turn of events, suspected serial killer John Wakefield was shot and killed by the Sheriff.

Authorities made the announcement today adding only that the shooting was "in self-defense".

Wakefield's death comes on the heels of a lengthy investigation of a series of slaying that have plagued the island for some time.

With Wakefield's death, it is believed that the killings and investigation have concluded.

Peaceful neighborhoods of island residents had become the focus of a hunt by local authorities for a suspected serial killer believed responsible for the slayings of recent months.

With local residents were gripped by fear, the Sheriff's department had increased patrols in the areas where the murders were believed to have occurred.

As the body count continued to rise, answers and results to the Sheriff's investigation were vague and inconclusive. Area residents demand more information and called for assistance from state and federal authorities.

In a community meeting, city council gathered and voted in favor of additional assistance. In a controversial move, his vote was vetoed by the Mayor - favoring the continuation of the investigation by only the Sheriff and his department.

Many believed that the Sheriff, and his progress was suffering due to the recent loss of his wife - at the hands of the serial killer.

With the Sheriff's office questioning many and detaining none, the arrest of John Wakefield came somewhat as a relief for the community which was gripped by fear.

Contradictions

Several contradictions were noticed once the text from the article was posted to HarpersGlobe.com. The article notes that the Wakefield murders occurred over a span of several days (possibly weeks), rather than a mass murder occurring over the span of a single day; most other contradictions stem from this point.

Explanation

As with the previous article, the existing information from HarpersGlobe.com is definitive. It is unknown if the non-contradictory content within the article is to be viewed as authoritative or not.

It has been speculated that the reason for the contradictions was that the story of the Wakefield murders was changed sometime before production on Harper's Island had wrapped.
