Cole Harkin
From Harper's Globe Wiki
Deputy Cole Harkin was one of the survivors of the 2001 murders. He was killed by an arrow to the heart in "Gurgle".
Background
During John Wakefield's original visit to the island, Harkin was told by Sheriff Charlie Mills to ensure Wakefield would leave and never come back. Wakefield attacked Harkin, cutting him. Mills then charged Wakefield with attempted murder of a police officer.
During the 2001 murders, Harkin was one of two officers who responded to the 911 call regarding the murder of Harris Antonini alongside Deputy Joshua Aiken. Wakefield killed Aiken, and Harkin was burned "horrifically" by one of the boat explosions caused by John Wakefield, according to news reports. [1] He survived after being immediately attended to by Sheriff Charlie Mills and Henry Dunn, but sustained third degree burns and was airlifted to Seattle, where he was placed in critical condition at the Washington Pacific University Burn Center.
The burns "cover[ed] 40% of his body, encompassing the entire right side, including his face." Doctors performed several skin grafts and plastic surgeries, and Harkin spent two and a half months in recovery at the Burn Center. He was frequently visited by J.D. Dunn and J.D.'s father in the recovery unity. After the worst of his injuries were healed, he returned to the island. [2]
Recent Events
In "Thwack," Harkin is spotted by Trish Wellington and her father Thomas Wellington after they are injured during a bike ride in the woods. Instead of responding to their request to use the phone, Harkin sets his vicious dog loose on them, and the animal is killed by Thomas in self defense.
Harkin is seen again in "Sploosh", allowing J.D. Dunn to hide in his cabin. Harkin is seen again in "Thrack, Splat, Sizzle", meeting Abby Mills at her old house and warns her that J.D. is innocent. He also told her about the link to Wakefield's past.
In "Gurgle", Harkin saves Charlie Mills in the woods, Charlie having sustained a serious injury from a spring trap. He takes Charlie back to his cabin for minor medical care and shows Charlie Wakefield's prison diary.
Death
Harkin leaves the cabin to get medical help for Charlie, taking the prison diary and a lantern. As he steps outside, Gigi begins barking and Harkin surveys the area. An arrow flies into Harkin's shoulder, pinning him to the cabin, and causing him to drop the lantern, lighting the porch on fire.
Harkin calls for Charlie and another arrow flies through the cabin window, prompting Charlie to attempt to reach his pistol on the nearby table. As Harkin attempts to pry himself loose, another arrow flies straight through his heart, killing him and causing him to drop the diary into the fire.
