Cody
From Harper's Globe Wiki
Cody was the president of the Kappa Delta Lambda fraternity at Washington Pacific University. In the fall of 2008, he planned a hazing event and initiation ritual for new fraternity pledges, and he hosted a subsequent party. Along with two other WPU students, Cody died following a car accident after the fraternity party.
Background
Cody is seen in a series of videos posted on HarpersGlobe.com by John Wakefield under the username "Dangerous Wreck." All but the last few moments of this series of videos were filmed by Cody, using his own video camera. In the first video, "I See You...," Cody is engaged in video surveillance of two fraternity pledges, Peck and Wilson, in preparation to kidnap them in a fraternity hazing event. Unbeknownst to Cody, the pledges are tipped off by Robin Matthews, the RA for the 3rd floor of the Port Dorm, where Peck resides. As a result, on the evening of Sept. 4, 2008, Cody and his fraternity brothers kidnap the wrong people, who are thrown in the trunk of Cody's 1969 Ford Galaxie 500 and taken to a remote site ("Let's Play A Game..."). As the fraternity brothers realize their mistake, someone gets into Cody's car and honks the horn. The car speeds forward, narrowly missing Cody and the others. The kidnapping victims, still in chains, run away. The car stops a short distance away, and Peck and Wilson emerge. They are quickly apprehended by the fraternity brothers, and Peck tells Cody that it was just a joke. Peck and Wilson are bound, tape is applied over their mouths, and they are thrown into the trunk of the car ("Say Goodbye To Life").
In "Not Strong Enough To Do Battle," Peck and Wilson are removed from the trunk, taken to a room, and chained to some chairs. A flamethrower is lit, and the pledges endure a branding ritual ("Beware... Seeing Isn't Always Believing"). Following the ritual, the pledges are unbound, and they walk out of the room to a group chanting, "In the bond." Everyone enters the adjacent fraternity house, where a party is underway. Peck is seen talking with Robin and her friend, Ashley ("Hi, Robin"). In "Oh Robin, The Game Has Only Just Begun...," Cody confronts Peck, who reveals that Robin was the one that tipped him off about the kidnapping. Cody takes Peck and Wilson to the store in his car. While Cody is inside, an unknown individual jumps on the roof of the car and breaks one of the windows ("Someone Is Watching, Robin"). Peck and Wilson jump into the back seat, exit the car, and run inside the store to tell Cody. A disbelieving Cody returns to the car and questions the pledges ("You Cannot Escape, Robin"). When they return to the fraternity house, Cody, vowing revenge on Robin for spoiling the kidnapping plan, tells Peck to get Robin and Ashley drunk, after which he and Peck will have some fun with them. Inside the party, Peck talks to Robin and Ashley as they drink quite a few beers. Cody videotapes Ashley and Robin, who tells Cody she is glad that he is not still mad at her for telling Peck about the kidnapping.
The Car Accident
Peck leads Robin and Ashley outside to Cody's car, and they all get in. Cody hands his video camera to Peck, and then Cody starts the car and drives away ("Rest Easy While You Can, Robin"). Robin attempts to tell a joke, but, as they continue driving, Peck begins to grope Robin as he videotapes her. When he continues after Robin repeated tells him to stop, she opens the car door. Cody stams on the brakes, and Robin exits the car ("Open Your Eyes, Robin"). Ashley convinces Robin to get back in the car, but Robin insists on driving. Cody moves to the passenger side, taking back his video camera, and Ashley moves to the back seat with Peck. Robin gets in the driver's seat, fastens her seatbelt, and starts the car ("Your Ignorance Will Be Your Undoing, Robin").
As they drive along Route 530 outside Arlington, Peck and Ashley make out in the back seat, as Cody films, making Robin increasingly angry. Robin notices a man standing in the middle of the road ahead. Peck recognizes the man as the person that broke the car window earlier that evening. Cody tells Robin to hit the man, and he pushes her leg, causing the car to accelerate. Robin swerves to avoid hitting the man, but she runs over a bear trap that had been placed in the road, causing her to lose control of the car ("Are You Watching, Robin?"). The car runs off the road and flips over, coming to rest against a tree. Peck is killed instantly, and Ashley and Cody are injured. Robin is unhurt and gets out of the car ("This Is Where The Fun Begins, Robin"). Ashley calls for Robin, and Robin tries to help her, but Ashley is unable to move. She tells Robin to go get help ("Time To Stop And Think, Robin"). Cody regains consciousness, grabs the video camera, and walks around outside, where he notices that gas is leaking from the car ("Fly Away, Robin Robin").
Death
As Cody wanders in the woods near the car, he is ambushed and murdered by John Wakefield, who had orchestrated the crash. The final portion of the video, "Are You Ready For The Truth, Robin?," is filmed by Wakefield, who takes Cody's camera. Wakefield ignites the dripping gasoline, causing an explosion and fire.
Aftermath
Wakefield videotapes Robin returning to the car just as it explodes and then running away as police sirens are heard in the background. Wakefield learns Robin's identity when he finds her ID lying on the ground near the car, and he later lures her to Harper's Island to document his murders.
Harper's Globe published a news article on the car accident.
